The Hideout Brewery is closing

The Hideout is Closing per a facebook post on their official page:

Unfortunately after over 13 years of operation The Hideout is closing. Friday and Saturday March 15-16th will be the Hideout Goodbye Party and Sunday March 17th, St Patrick’s day, will be the last day the Hideout is open. We are excited about seeing all of the old regulars one last time at the brewery and hope that everyone has a great time!

Please make sure to get your mug to take home if you are a mug club member. Please also spend any gift cards that you have, they will be accepted while we are operational.

Many people have asked why were are closing and not finishing a sale. We have been working hard to sell The Hideout with a number of buyers since June. We had finalized all of the details with a buyer but they were unable to get rights to the building. The owner of the building has been unwilling to negotiate with any of our potential buyers. They have been unwilling to give any buyer a price to have a new lease or land contract. Because of this, we have been unable to sell the business as a whole and are left with no option but to close the doors.

We will be selling all of the equipment and assets of the brewery. Some of the equipment stays with the building, but the rest is all for sale. The Brew Kettle, Mash Ton, two out of three walk in coolers, and some additional equipment is not for sale, everything else is available. You can contact me directly by email or text me to setup a time to come look at the equipment. nick@hideoutbrewing.com 616-389-9900 I will be posting specific pieces on craigslist and send another email with more details.

City Built Brewing opens Memorial Weekend (finally!)

City Built Brewing will finally open 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27 after more than a year delay. Located at 820 Monroe Ave in the North Monroe district this brewery fills a gap left by Founders when they left the Brassworks building 10 years ago.
City Built will start off with a five-day-a-week schedule: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
The 2,300-square-foot space has a 10-barrel brewing system, a kitchen, a 180-seat taproom and a meeting room, dubbed The Second Ward, available for large groups and business meetings.
The food will have Puerto Rican style and the brewer favors experimentation with unusual herbs and spices to create flavorful, idiosyncratic beers.
So if you are still in Grand Rapids this Memorial Weekend, visit City Built Brewing and welcome them to Beer City!

Grand Rapids Breweries St Patricks day events list 2017

St. Patricks day 2017 is fast approaching (March 17th) and we’ve contacted all the local breweries to find out who is having specials/events/music to celebrate. Obviously Irish on Ionia is the main St Patty celebration in GR but that is actually happening on the 18th this year, so that means double the boozing! The best place for up to date information is your favorite breweries Facebook page or of course right HERE as we will keep this list updated! East West Brewing Open

East West Brewing Co opens today for a soft opening throughout December. They promise a variety of beers that pair with their food menu all created with locally sourced fresh ingredients.
Owner Balwinder Bal acts as brewmaster and head chef at East West Brewing as well as owning the adjacent Bombay Cuisine restaurant. Located in Eastown this new brewery should be a nice compliment to the existing breweries on the east side of Grand Rapids.
Stop in, try some beers and let us know how they taste!

Atwater Brewing GR first day open review

I visited Atwater Brewing Oct 13th on their first official day open at about 5:00pm. First you’ll notice the exterior of The Rowe and Atwater on the ground floor look really great after the renovations and with outdoor seating on the sidewalk along Monroe Ave it creates an inviting space. Inside was crowded on opening day but because I brought a dog I would be sitting outside anyways so it wasn’t a concern though without exterior heaters it got chilly as the sun went down. Indoor space was a mix of high tops, tables and bar seating with lots of windows this will be a great spot to sit and watch pedestrians while you sip a beer.
I got a waitress outside and she was prompt bringing both beer and food menus. They had already sold out of a few beers but with 40 taps there were still plenty to try. Next visit I will probably do a sampler and the cocktail menu has some interesting concoctions too. The food menu features ‘wieners’ that as you can see in the pictures are like sliders that cost $4 each. I sampled the Michigan Blueberry Chucker Clucker, Johnny Appleseed, and the Ball Parker with the Ball Parker being my favorite due to the classic flavors. With a side of waffle fries that are just basic tasting it would be a modest meal. As you can see on the food menu there are more substantial offerings at a higher price as well as appetizers, salads, and pizza so plenty to choose from. You might want to try going at lunch to get a cheaper combo price. They also provided sauces including; ketchup, mustard, barbecue, and hot sauce that all tasted pretty basic which was nice.

Overall a good first impression with the service, food and building. I only tried one beer so can’t give a good review but with the variety of options and Atwater’s success around the state I suspect they will create some good beers here in Grand Rapids.

Atwater Brewery in GR now open!

Atwater Brewing opens a new location in Grand Rapids TODAY! Inside The Rowe at 201 Michigan Street NW, this new brewery has a prime location and with 40 taps you’ll want to check it out asap. Atwater is known as a Detroit brewer but now with a presence in Beer City USA they’re bridging the two biggest cities in Michigan. This Grand Rapids location will allow Atwater to experiment with new recipes and test them in a refined beer loving city before possibly brewing larger batches in Detroit.
The brewery also has food including German theme wieners as well as their own liquors and wine.

Check it out and let us know what your favorite Atwater beer is!
